Helene Schjerfbeck is one of the most famous artists in Finland and Scandinavia. She was born 1862 in Helsinki, at the age of four she had an accident and injured her hip. This had serious consequences, which would affect her life and artistry. As a convalescent she spent much time painting and drawing.

At the age of 11, she was accepted to an art school, as her talent was early discovered.
As a young artist she had the opportunity to study and paint in France and England. In the beginning her style was realistic, but as time passed and moving into the 20th century, Helene developed a very characteristic modern style.

I think I prefer the more realistic 1882 version. It is always nice to learn about different artiststs.

I had never heard of this artist before. She is a genius! Thank you for sharing her exquisite work! I think I like the more finished version best, too.

Have a great weekend and happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Hello dear,

I'am a little bit late for the Friday Postcard, it's been a while since my last participation but the pleasure is always the same, people come and go but the cards reminds.

I'm very happy to travel to your page to discover a lovely "ballerina" that reminds me of my favorites Degas paintings. One of my sister is also into art, drawn and painting and she's passionnate by female artist that the "big" story has forgotten. She told me about a woman poet from Finland called Edith Sodergran, have you heard about her ?

See you

Grace
