Tartan on the Loom

Recieved on: 25 Jan, 2013
Distance: 1,804 km (1,121 miles)
Travel time: 16 days
Thank you Elizabeth from London!
She has lots to celebrate:
" Last year big thing was the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
This year it will be the royal baby" .
Because Elizabeth is Scottish, she sent me a card with Tartan on Loom.
Tartan is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in many other materials. Tartan is particularly associated with Scotland and kilts. Other things which come to my mind of Scotland are whiskey, higlands, bagpipe music and castles.

Messy - Lou

Recieved on: 24 Jan, 2013
Distance: 1,486 km (923 miles)
Travel time: 4 days

Thank you Carla from Raalte, Netherlands
She writes : "This is a drawing of Fiep Westendorp,
who is a well-known drawer of children's book illustrations in Netherlands."
This is a card from Annie M.G. Schmidt's book Messy-Lou with Fiep Westendorp's illustrations.
Whether Messy-Lou is having a bath, getting a haircut, warming up soup or going to a wedding... she and her dog Grubber always make a glorious mess of things. But at the end of her adventures she still gets a medal from the mayor.

So I must go to the library ...

Verkahalli Vanhankaupungin keskellä on ollut toiminnassa jo 1300-luvulta lähtien. Silloin halli oli torin keskellä kulkeva katettu kauppakuja, jonka päissä oli yöksi suljettavat kalterit. Nykyään Verkahallin keskikäytävä on pyhitetty käsitöille ja turistirihkamalle.
Pikkutori  Mariankirkon itäpuolella.
Mariankirkkoa  alettiin rakentaa jo 1220-luvulla, nykyisen muotonsa se sai vuoteen 1397 mennessä. Kirkosta kuuluva merkkisoitto on yksi Krakovan tunnusmerkeistä.

Galloping Horses

Traditional Chinese ink painting of galloping horses.
Recieved on : 5 Jan, 2013
Distance: 7,573 km (4,706 miles)
Travel time: 48 days
Thank you  Vorx from Nanning, China.

These horses in the painting look very strong with  energetic. What a great pleasure it would be to watch horses galloping!  Because it's not possible for me now and here, the second best thing to do is admire these lovely Chinese paintings.

Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is the political, economic and cultural center of the region. It has the most prosperous economy in Southwest China, supplying an abundance of agricultural products to the whole Guangxi. Bordering Vietnam, this city is neighbor to Guangzhou, close to Hong Kong and Macau, and faces Southeast Asia. This advantageous location makes the city a commercial and communication center, opening China to Southeast Asia.
It is known as the "Green City" because of its abundance of lush tropical foliage.
