This comes from Moscow sent by Ekaterina. I like the calm, summery atmosphere, people talking, reading newspaper and drinking tea on the balcony.

Boris Mikhaylovich Kustodiev (1878 –  1927) was a Russian painter and stage designer.

Kustodijev opiskeli alun alkaen teologisessa seminaarissa, kunnes hän vuosina 1896–1903 sai Pietarissa opetusta Ilja Repiniltä. Kustodijev matkusteli uransa aikana laajalti eri puolilla Eurooppaa. Maalaustöidensä ohella hän esimerkiksi kuvitti kirjoja. Hän oli fyysisesti heikko; hän sairasti tuberkuloosia ja vietti vuosia jalat halvaantuneina. Ruumiillisista vaivoista huolimatta Kustodijev maalasi lukuisia teoksia, jotka kuvasivat iloisin sävyin tuon ajan Venäjää ja sen ihmisiä. Hän kuoli 49-vuotiaana.

My collection

Kotiliesi (meaning Fireside in English) is a Finnish language bimonthly family and women's magazine published in Helsinki, Finland. It is one of the oldest magazines in the country and is the first Finnish magazine addressing housewives. The magazine was established in December 1922 and the original motto was "Home is society's heart."

My first Anni Swan book from year 1958

Sara and Sarri is a traditional Cinderella story about poor and orphan Sarri and rich, motherless Sara. Sara and Sarri will be foster sisters and  "All's Well That Ends Well"

Anni Emilia Swan (1875 - 1958) was a Finnish writer. Swan wrote many books for children and young adults, was a journalist for children's magazines and worked as a translator. She is considered the creator of Finnish literature for girls.

Swan's first collection of fairy tales, simply called Satuja ("Fairy Tales"), was published in 1901. Her first book for young adults, which was partly based on her father's recollections, was Tottisalmen perillinen ("The Heir of Tottisalmi"), published in 1917. This book is about an orphan farm-hand, Yrjö, who turns out to be, in reality, an heir to a large fortune. Her other well-known books are Iris rukka ("Poor Iris"), Ollin oppivuodet ("Olli's Apprentenceship") and Sara ja Sarri ("Sara and Sarri"). The courageous and resourceful main characters in Swan's young-adult fiction had been a role-model for many heroes and heroines in later young-adult fiction.

Poika ja varis 1884

Akseli Gallen-Kallela (26 April 1865 – 7 March 1931) was a Finnish painter who is best known for his illustrations of the Kalevala, the Finnish national epic. His work was considered very important for the Finnish national identity.

"Boy and a Crow" is an early work by Gallen-Kallela. The painting is from 1884 and is in the permanent collection at the Ateneum in Helsinki, painted when Gallen-Kallela was only 19 years, really an astonishing piece of work for a 19-year-old. The subject of the painting was the character of this peasant boy, whom the artist knew from before.

Amélie Helga Lundahl (1850-1914)

Love letter 1890



Amelie Helga Lundahl was born May 26th, 1850 in Oulu, Finland.  She attended art school in Stockholm and Helsinki and was one of the first Finnish women to study at the Académie Julien in Paris. After spending time in Bretagne in the 1870s, she had acquired a taste for the outdoors. She settled in Bretagne later and painted peasant themes.

Amelie died in Helsinki on August 20, 1914.

 Thousands of students across the country shall get their report cards, diplomas and student’s caps on Saturday, after graduating from upper secondary school. This year in Finland about 28 000 students  will celebrate their white cap and graduation.

Congratulations to all graduates! Wishing you the best of luck in the future.

It's Time to do Some Gardening

Now it’s time to get busy in the garden.

It’s time to get flowers, trees and shrubs planted,

 walls, fences and greenhouses built, patios and arbours installed.

Or perhaps it's time to enjoy the sun, sit on garden bench listening birds singing.

I think I'll choose the garden bench  :)

Here’s little Moomintroll, none other,

Hurrying home with milk for mother.

Quick, Moomintroll, it’s nearly night.

Run home while there’s a bit of light.

Don’t hang around in woods like these.

 Strange creatures lurk between the trees.

 The wind begins to howl and hiss.

Now, guess what happens after this…

In a delightful, curious game of what comes next, Moomintroll travels through the woods to get home with milk for Moominmamma. A simple trip turns into a colorful adventure as Moomintroll meets Mymble who has lost her sister Little My. Along the way, they endue the hijinks of all the charming characters of the Moomin world including the Fillijonks and Hattifatteners. Will Moomin ever make it home safe and sound?

 

Yes he did and there was Moominmamma picking up berries and waiting for the children to come home. Unfortunately during Moomintroll's and Mymble's exciting adventure through the woods the milk had turned into buttermilk. But Moominmamma comforts them saying: From now on we'll drink juice.

Enni Id - ITE-taiteilija



The small home of Enni Id (1900-1992), a naivistic artist of Padasjoki, is a total work of art rich in colour. It is painted from floor to ceiling with the artist's favourite themes: floral and plant ornaments and cats. Oil paintings by Enni Id also took as their themes angels, devils and the peasant uprising known as the War of the Clubs. The general public came to know her works through a showing of naivistic art at Kunsthalle Helsinki in 1973. 

Enni always had a passion for sketching and painting, but during the time she lived in marriage with her husband, this desire could not be realised. However, when in 1966 she became a widow, she took the opportunity to follow her passion, and she started painting.

This became kind of an outburst.



Enni Id's house has been legated to the community and it is nowadays is being cared for by the local village action association. The house is open for the public during summer time

Y is for Yesterday

 I recieved  these cards from my pen pal in 1965. I was so proud, nobody else had such special Beatles photos as me.  You can peek into my room  and take a time travel to the 60s if you go here and listen to this.

 Yesterday was recorded in 1965 in album Help!

But it was 50 years ago on March 22 1963 
when The Beatles' released Please Please Me,

 their first studio album.
