National parks

 Killarney National Park
Killarney National Park, near the town of Killarney, County Kerry, was the first national park in Ireland.The park is of high ecological value because of the quality, diversity, and extensiveness of many of its habitats and the wide variety of species that they accommodate, some of which are rare. The park was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1981.

Chalk cliffs in the Jasmund national park

The Jasmund National Park is a nature reserve on the Jasmund peninsula, in the northeast of Rügen island.   It is famous for containing the largest chalk cliffs in Germany, the Königsstuhl.  These cliffs are up to 161 m (528 ft) above the Baltic Sea. The beech forests behind the cliffs are also part of the national park.  On June 25, 2011 the beech forest in the park was added to UNESCO World Heritage Site as an extension of the Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany.

Stephanie lives in Atlanta, Georgia and last summer she spent 10 days with her family in Ireland. Among other things they visited this ancient structure of Dunluce Castle. 

Dunluce Castle is a medieval Irish castle on the Antrim Coast. It is located dramatically close to a headland that plunges straight into the sea and it's fascinating history dates back to the 14th century.

Anna writes that this is a typical landscape in rural Ireland - the hills, fences and castles. She wonders how those fences hold in place for so long because there is no cement between the stones.

The historic and picturesque coastal village of Carlingford is situated on the Cooley Peninsula, County Louth. King John's Castle is sited on high rock at the entrance of the harbour. The area offers many attractions for active holidaymakers.

The Long Room, Trinity College, Dublin

The main chamber of the Old Library is the Long Room, and at nearly 65 metres in length, it is filled with 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books.  It's one of Ireland's biggest tourist attractions. There's also an old harp which is believed to be the oldest in Ireland. It dates from the 15th century.

The rock rises from the Plain of Tipperary forming a striking landmark which can be seen from all roads leading to the town. From the 4th to the 12th centuries it was the principal stronghold of the Kings of Munster, but after being visited by St. Patrick in the 5th century it acquired a religious significance which was seen outshine its political importance.

A castle has been on the site since 1119. In the 13th century it came into the hands of King  Edward I, for whom it became a favourite residence; in the 16th century, Henry VIII used it as a residence for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. The castle today dates mostly from the 19th century and is built on islands in a lake formed by the River Len to the east of the village of Leeds. It has been open to the public since 1976. Kortissa on Ha'pennyn silta Liffey joella Dublinissa.  Claudian kortti oli ilmeisesti vähän harhaillut naapurienkin postilaatikoissa, koska se löytyi vasta sunnuntaina meidän omasta laatikosta.
