Aperi, Karpathos

In the autumn 2017 we spent two weeks in the beautiful island of Karpathos.  Aperi is one of the beautiful and attractive villages on the island. Aperi used to be the capital of Karpathos but now Pigadia by the sea is the capital. The village lies at an altitude of 320 metres, amidst lush green, on the slopes of Mount Hamali at the top of which one can see the remains of the Venetian castle.

Aperi is one of the largest villages of the island with the finest examples of traditional architecture built by the nobles and Greek immigrants who came back from the USA. The development of the village is strongly associated with the structure of the first schools and the first cultural centre which enhances the spiritual aspect of Aperi.
