The Maiden of Finland

Suomen neito, The Maiden of Finland with Finnish flag.
Art by Ranghild Sellen (1872-1942)

The Maiden of Finland is the national personification of Finland. She is a barefoot young woman in her mid-twenties with often braided blonde hair, blue eyes, wearing a blue and white national costume or a white dress. She was originally called Aura after the Aura River in Turku.

In the painting "The Attack" by Edvard Isto, the Finnish Maiden is being attacked by the Russian eagle, which is tearing away the law book from her hands. It was painted when the Russification of Finland started in 1899.

Flag

Flag of the Dutch East India Company
From Eva, Netherlands

The Dutch East Indies Company, was originally established as a chartered company in 1602, when the Dutch government granted it a 21-year monopoly on the Dutch spice trade.  The company possessed quasi-governmental powers, including the ability to wage war, imprison and execute convicts, negotiate treaties, strike its own coins, and establish colonies.

Hollannin Itä-Intian kauppakomppania oli vuonna 1602 perustettu maailman toinen monikansallinen yritys (Englannin Itä-Intian kauppakomppania perustettiin vain kaksi vuotta aikaisemmin). Sillä sillä oli lähes valtiolliset oikeudet, kuten oikeus julistaa sota, solmia sopimuksia, vangita ja teloittaa epäiltyjä, painaa rahaa ja perustaa siirtomaita.

The Royal Guards perform state ceremonial duties on behalf of the Swedish Armed Forces. They also take part in royal ceremonial occasions, official state visits, the opening of parliament, Swedish National Day, formal audiences, the official opening of the Swedish Academy, naval visits etc.
Also they are guarding The Royal Palace of Stockholm and Drottningholm Palace. Changing the Guard takes place every day of the year. However the march through the city of Stockholm with military band is usually only during the summer months from May to August.

My sister in law sent these cards to our daughter.
