Families in art

Las meninas (The Maids of Honor) 1656
Diego Velazquez (1599-1660)
My Velazquez collection

Las meninas (The Maids of Honor)is Velázquez’s most famous painting. Painted at the end of the artist’s career, Las meninas depicts the infant Margarita, daughter of King Philip IV and heir to the Spanish throne, surrounded by her ladies-in-waiting. Velázquez incorporates a self-portrait into the piece; he can be seen at his canvas in the left-corner of the painting.

Fernando Botero Angulo (born 19 April 1932) is a Colombian figurative artist and sculptor. Born in Medellín, his signature style, also known as "Boterismo", depicts people and figures in large, exaggerated volume, which can represent political criticism or humor, depending on the piece. He is considered the most recognized and quoted living artist from Latin America, and his art can be found in highly visible places around the world, such as Park Avenue in New York City and the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Diego Velázquez ( baptized June 6, 1599, Sevilla, Spain—died August 6, 1660, Madrid) was a Spanish painter, the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV, and one of the most important painters of the Spanish Golden Age. He was an individualistic artist of the contemporary Baroque period. In addition to numerous renditions of scenes of historical and cultural significance, he painted scores of portraits of the Spanish royal family, other notable European figures, and commoners.

Salvador  Dalí (1904 –  1989), was a prominent Spanish surrealist painter born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. Dalí was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. The Persistence of Memory (1931) is one of his most recognizable works. This painting made Dali world famous at 28.

I must say I'm not a huge fan of Dali myself, but definitely his works are most interesting  with lots of details.

Bright Colors and Joan Miró

Many years ago before my "postcrossing-time"  I bought this little PostcardBook, a set of  Joan Miro's postcards and there are still some of them left in my art collection.

"Blue is the color of my dreams"  Miro

  Landscape 1924/25

Dancer 1925

The Lark's Wing, Encircled with Golden Blue, Rejoins the Heart of the Poppy Sleeping on a Diamond-Studded Meadow 1967

The work of Joan Miró is immediately identifiable by his unique style, bright colours and signature shapes. He was at the forefront of Spanish modern art and internationally acclaimed artist.

Joan Miró i Ferrà (1893 Barcelona – 1983 Palma de Mallorca) oli katalonialainen taidemaalari, kuvanveistäjä ja keraamikko. Mirón töitä on kuvattu surrealistisiksi, lapsenomaisiksi, katalonialaista kansallisylpeyttä ilmentäviksi ja alitajuntaa peilaaviksi.

This is my entry to Maria's  "Postcards for The Weekend" on her "Connections to the World-blog" and the theme for this week is Bright colors.
