Postcards from my trip to Andorra
Meritxell is a village in Andorra, located in the parish of Canillo in the north of the country near the French border. Our Lady of Meritxell is the patron saint of Andorra.
In the village is the Basilica of Our Lady of Meritxell, which replaces the original Romanesque style sanctuary burnt down in a fire in 1972. It houses a replica of the Romanesque carving of the Virgin that was also destroyed in the fire.

The Western Caucasus has a remarkable diversity of geology, ecosystems and species. It is of global significance as a centre of plant diversity. Along with the Virgin Komi World Heritage site, it is the only large mountain area in Europe that has not experienced significant human impact, containing extensive tracts of undisturbed mountain forests unique on the European scale.

The Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc, in the Czech Republic is a Baroque monument that was built between 1716 to 1754. The main purpose was to celebrate the Catholic Church and faith, partly caused by feeling of gratitude for ending a plague, which struck Moravia between 1713 and 1715.The column was also understood to be an expression of local patriotism, since all artists and master craftsmen working on this monument were Olomouc citizens, and almost all depicted saints were connected with the city of Olomouc in some way.
It is the biggest Baroque sculptural group in the Czech Republic. In 2000 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "one of the most exceptional examples of the apogee of central European Baroque artistic expression".

Meteora
The Holy Meteora, Greece
UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. The six (of an original twenty four) monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area. It is located near the town of Kalambaka at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains.

Exchanging clocks
Exchange of Watches is one of Arvid Liljelund’s most important paintings on an Ostrobothnian theme. The artist made numerous summer painting excursions to the Ostrobothnian coast, which was still a cultural region unknown to the general public at that time. As his painting location in the summer of 1880, Liljelund chose to work about 30 miles south of the city of Vaasa in the settlement of Korsnäs, where the people were still known to wear colourful festive folk costumes.
