Christmas Eve

 Jennny Nyström, Sweden

Jenny Nyström (1854-1946) was born in Kalmar, Sweden, but moved to Gothenburg with her family in 1862. Here she started painting. Already as a 15 year old she was painting oilpainting. She went to the Swedish art academy in the period 1873-1881.

She married Daniel Stoopendaal in 1887 and in 1893 they got the son Curt Nyström Stoopendaal.

Jenny Nyström is famous for her many postcards that started out with fairy tale motifs, which later became Christmas motifs, where her tomte / nisse ( Elf / dwarf ) became the standard image of Christmas elves in Sweden. She is often called the mother of the Swedish tomte.
