Convent of Christ (Tomar) Portugal

The Convent of Christ is a former Roman Catholic convent in Tomar, Portugal. Originally a 12th-century Templar stronghold, when the order was dissolved in the 14th century the Portuguese branch was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ, that later supported Portugal's maritime discoveries of the 15th century. The convent and castle complex is a historic and cultural monument and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.

Porto sijaitsee Pohjois-Portugalissa, Atlantin rannikolla, Douro-joen pohjoisrannalla. Kaupunki on rakennettu jyrkkien kukkuloiden rinteille Costa Verden alueelle. Se muodostaa kaksoiskaupungin joen etelärannalla olevan Vila Nova de Gaian kanssa. Porto tunnetaan ennen kaikkea portviinistään ja lumoavan kauniista historiallisesta keskustasta, joka on Unescon maailmanperintökohde vuodesta 1996.

Alto Douro (suom. Ylä-Douro) on maailman ensimmäinen rekisteröity viininviljelyalue Koillis-Portugalissa. Alto Douron maanviljelysalue on lähes 250 000 hehtaaria suuri, ja viininviljelykseen siitä käytetään 20 prosenttia. Alueella on tuotettu viinejä jo yli 2000 vuoden ajan. Alueen tärkein tuote on nykyään portviini, josta saa elantonsa 9000 tilaa.

UNESCO lisäsi kohteen maailmanperintöluetteloon vuonna 2001 "kehittyvänä ja elävänä kulttuurimaisemana".
