From Julia, who loves animals and flowers.
Julia asuu Ukrainan maaseudulla ja pitää eläimistä ja kukista.
Hän lähetti minulle  tämän koirakortin. Kuvassa  saattaa olla Julian oma koira,
 koska kortti vaikuttaa ihan valokuvalta.
Länsi-Siperian laikako?
Vähän kyllä muistuttaa huskyakin.....

Kultakuume (1925)
Elokuva oli yksi mykkäelokuvan ajan menestyneimpiä
ja sitä pidetään nykyisin klassikkona sekä yhtenä Chaplinin pääteoksista.

The Gold Rush (1925)
The film was one of the most successful film in silent film period
and today it is regarded as classic and one of Chaplin's main works
During the Great Gold Rush to Alaska, men in thousands came from all parts of the world. Many of them were ignorant of the hardships before them - The intense cold, the lack of food and a journey through regions of ice and snow were the problems that awaited them.

Kiitos Oksana, kortti sopii hienosti elokuvakokoelmaani!

Nice, colourful card but bo message, just ID.

Kiitos Eugene oikein paljon hauskasta kortistasi.

Vladimir Arzhevitin / Domovoi - a house spirit in Slavic folklore
I have never heard about Demovoi before so I had to search help.....

Demovoi or domovye are masculine, typically small, bearded, and sometimes covered in hair all over. According to some traditions, domovye take on the appearance of current or former owners of the house and have a grey beard, sometimes with tails or little horns. There are tales of neighbours seeing the master of the house out in the yard while in fact the real master is asleep in bed. It has also been said that domovye can take on the appearance of cats or dogs, but reports of this are fewer than of that mentioned before.

Thank you Eugene for this cute and funny card!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

ja hauskan kortin hänen kauniista kotikylästään,

lisäksi vielä  joululahjankin - pienen jääkaappimagneetin :)
Jan from Rouveen sent two cards and a Christmas gift  - fridgemagnet :)
Great thanks Jan!

Sain tämän kortin Gerrieltä Hollannista.
Hän asuu Wageningenissä  ja on iloinen,
ettei lasten enää tarvitse pukeutua samalla tavalla
 kuin kuvan poika aikoinaan.
Olen samaa mieltä, mutta kortti on kyllä kaunis.
Kiitos Gerrie!

Kortin takana lukee:
The text in the back of the card:

Anton Pietarista lähetti kortin Valamon Ristisaaresta. Pyhän Nikolaoksen (Nikolain) skiitta sijaitsee saaressa Valamon luostariin menevän vesireitin varrella, luostarilahden suulla.
Anton myös kysyi: Arvaa mikä....)

 Wooden Irkutsk
Lovely, old wooden houses with beautiful window decorations, a carpenter's masterpiece.
Thank you Tatyana

Minä olen ilmeisesti perinyt jostakin erikoisen "vanhojentalojen geenin ".  Jo aivan nuorena ihailin vanhoja, punaisia, harmaita ja ränsistyneitäkin puutaloja. Halusin sellaisen itselleni joskus isona  ja sainkin, vanhan, punaisen ja vähän ränsistyneen. Tatyana Moskovasta oli ilmeisesti lukenut profiiliani tarkasti  ( I like narrow streets with old houses :), hän lähetti minulle tämän viehättävän katunäkymän Irkutskista. Ikkunakoristeet talossa  ovat upeat,  irkutskilaisen puusepän taidonnäyte. Suosikkikortti!

The  Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood , St. Petersburg. This marvelous Russian-style church was built on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated in March 1881.
Mariya lähetti kortin Pietarista.  Kortissa on ehkä kuuluisin kaupungin nähtävyys: Verikirkko tai Kristuksen ylösnousemuksen katedraali, joka rakennettiin tsaari Aleksanteri II:n muistoksi paikalle, jolla hänet salamurhattiin vuonna 1881.

Dmitry lähetti kauniin puistokuvan Moskovasta. Puisto on hänen lempipaikkansa ja sillä on erityinen merkitys, vuosi sitten Dmitry juhli häitään Tsaritsynon puistossa. Onnea hääpäivälle!

"Alphabet" Series

Jester
Boem, (1843-1914) was a talented Russian graphic artist. Born in St. Petersburg, her family moved to Yaroslavl when she was 6 years old. One of her art teachers was Ivan Kramskoi, the influential Russian painter and critic. Her many postcard series were very successful and one of the most well-known is "The Russian Alphabet".

Taas uusi tuttavuus venäläisistä taiteilijoista, ja Elenan lähettämä kortti kyllä piristi marraskuun ensimmäisen päivän harmautta. Toinen suosikkikortti!

Cards from October

Received on 22 Oct, 2013
And now it's November, I must shape up with my updates :)

Don from Australia sent this card showing Blue Mountains Crossing Re-enactment, 200th Anniversary of first European Crossing, May 1813 - May 2013. He also told an interesting story  how his great-great grandfather and the family traveled to Iman Valley on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

When these these guys came back to Holland from a long journey,
they sure were happy to see Brinta !
Hooray! There is Brinta again!
Linda writes that Brinta is one of the most famous and oldest breakfast in Netherlands.

Renato from Italy must be a real flower person, he sent me this nice ad card of Eurolora.  Euroflora is an international event event held in every five years.  Between the exhibitions with the same typology it is the most visited in Europe.

Matthias from Germany has five dogs and he thinks he can't take such peaceful picture of his dogs together with a cat. The text in the card says: Two friends have to be similar in their hearts, in all other things they can be completely different.

There are no golden leaves hanging on the trees anymore.
October means hard work for gardeners, but kids love it!
Eeva from Helsinki sent this cute card,
it is a fine addition for my Virpi Pekkala collection.

Kukkuu! Tittut! Peek-a-boo!

Russian artists

Sofia from Moscov sent these beautiful and  fabulous postcards.
The artist is Daria Gerasimova, a Russian illustrator of childrens books.
Unfortunately I didn't find any  information about her.
But I really like her art works very much!

 On a spring cock

 Mushroom Hunting

 Going after magic herbs

 On a fairy blue cat

Merry winter fish

They remind me of many Russian and Ukrainian childrens stories
we used to read to our children.
These are two dearest examples from our bookshelf:

E. Bulatova and O. Vasiljeva
Vaarin kinnas / Mitten / РУКАВИЧКА

Vasily Perov

Arrival of a New Governess in a Merchant House, 1866

 Hunters at rest, 1871

Last Journey (Sending off the Deceased ) 1865

 Arriving at the inquiry,  1857

Easter Procession in a Village, 1861

Portrait of the Author Fyodor Dostoyevsky , 1872

Solitary Guitarist, 1865

Vasily Perov (1834-1882) was a Russian painter of scenes and portraits.
Some of his works display humor or irony, but some are very serious. His paintings shows different levels of Russian society - rich and poor.

This is one of those sad descriptions of poverty.
